It is with sorrow that the family of Grant Palmer announces his death at home in Alban on Tuesday, October 29th, 2019 on his 81st birthday. Predeceased by his parents Grant Arthur Palmer in 1989 and Phyllis Marion Palmer (née Armstrong) in 2011. Predeceased by his wife Winifred Vera, (née Munro) in 2001. Forever missed and always remembered by his daughter Leigh-Andra of Alban. Brother of Peter (late Lynne) of Midland, ON/ Mexico, Marilynne Unck of London, ON, and Darryl (Arlene Cohen) of Toronto. He will also be missed by his nephew Philip and his nieces Cindy, Cheri, Helena, Jessica & Carolyn, along with his great nieces and nephews. Grand dad to many special 4-legged Golden Retrievers, and most notably his beloved Monty. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, he began teaching in Wingham, ON where he met and later married Win. They moved first to London then to Sudbury in 1969 where they both taught at Lockerby Composite School for over 25 years until retirement in the mid 1990’s. Grant (almost always referred to as Mr. Palmer) was a fixture at the top of the iconic LCS staircase, outside classroom #204 where he taught his passion subject history, economics, English, Geography, in addition to spelling, grammar and punctuation, as a former student can attest! His hobbies included reading (mostly history/ military history), music, dancing, canoeing, and the great outdoors. He loved hockey and his time coaching/co-coaching a couple of LCS teams. A memorial service / celebration of life at a future date. Donations can be made, in Grant’s memory to The Heart & Stroke Foundation, The Northeastern Ontario Geriatric Centre, or any local chapter of The Alzheimer’s Society.
