Daoust Alfred Obituary

November 10, 1938 - April 15, 2019 - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, brother, uncle and PePère Gilles at the age of 80 years. Son of the late Arthur and Florida (nee Lafortune) Daoust, loving father of Lynne (Pierre Poirier) and Dan (Sylvie (née Pothier)) and cherished PePère Gilles to Martin (Catherine), Danica (Michel) and Zakary. He is survived by his sisters Régina (Alcide Paquette), Angela (Norman Bradley), Liette (Dave Barrett), Françoise (René Guinard) and his two brothers, Michel (Faye deBac) and Denis. Gilles is predeceased by his brother Gérard and his sister Lisette (Marc Dionne). He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended families and friends. Gilles started his career at Inco but soon found out working underground was not his thing. He made a career out of driving 18 wheelers for International, Tri-Mac and Trans Pro. In the 70s Gilles also worked for the family business installing siding and doing the odd jobs. Gilles put his skills to good use by building a little home at his site at Ranger Bay for his children and grandchildren to make memories. His love of fishing on the French River (and his amazing fish fries), playing golf, billiards and cards which he taught his children and grandchildren, was only matched by his storytelling. Gilles could tell a tale or joke like none other. It would not be complete without mentioning his goaltending years in College and for the Noelville team with his butterfly style and fiberglass mask. Gilles had also been a snowbird for many years in Lakeworth, FLA, where his family and friends have shared some great times. His love of life, wisdom and laughter will be cherished forever. Until we meet again, we'll keep a song in our hearts. A heartfelt thank you is offered to his nurse, Sheila Mirabella employed by Bayshore, who faithfully provided prodigious care. Her way of being and her sense of humour were also appreciated by Gilles and family. In keeping with Gilles wishes, there will be no visitations. Donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Simple Wishes of the North.
