It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of my cherished mother Aline Pitre (née Jean) on January 30th , 2026. Aline recently celebrated her 93rd birthday January 6th.
A dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, Aline cherished her family and friends and was always available to help others in any way possible.
If you shopped at the Eaton’s stationery department in Sudbury, you would have been served by a cheery, well-styled lady going above and beyond to help you find the perfect card or gift. Aline loved people and her giving nature most often brightened their day.
Aline was a woman of deep faith and was very active as a member of the St Eugene Parish Auxiliary. Whether it was to help with parish functions or to sing in the Church choir, her presence and devotion was appreciated. Some of her most beloved friends belonged to the parish and their bond was as close as family.
Aline enjoyed her cottage on the French River. She and my father welcomed and hosted family and friends for BBQs and playing cards. She could often be seen rocking in her favourite rocking chair that my father gifted her all while humming a tune or two. In the later years she braved sea-doo rides and kayaking but the pedal boat remained more her style.
As a member of the Sudbury Northern Echoes Choir, she shared her voice, her harmonies and her enthusiasm for singing at various community events.
Always eager to learn, at 83 she mastered the iPad and joined Facebook allowing her to keep in touch with family and friends near and far. Fiercely independent, Aline lived in her own home until 2024 and eventually moved to the Walford Residence following a decline in her health. She transitioned to her new home with openness and gratitude and soon enjoyed the company of fellow residents and the exceptional care from staff.
Aline was married to the man of her dreams, the late Ernest Pitre (pre-deceased 1986). Her love for her husband was timeless and boundless. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by her devoted daughter and caregiver, Ginette Michel.
Aline was the beloved daughter of the late Léo and Simone (née Plouffe) Jean and daughter-in- law to the late Céline and Alfred Pitre.
She leaves behind her cherished sister Claudette Tosolini (Paul), and sister-in-law to Nicole Adams (Tom predeceased). She is predeceased by her sister Stella, her two brothers Ronaldo and Lewis, brothers and sisters-in-law Constant & Jeanne Pitre and Reginald and Irene Pitre.
Beloved ‘Matante’ to nieces and nephews: Lynn Tosolini (Robert Rastorp), Robert Tosolini, Lise McGlade (Joey), Marc Pitre (Lorie), Denise McIntosh (John predeceased), Diane Turgeon (Joe), Jeanine Laberge (Dillon), Donald Pitre, Suzanne Nadon (Bernard), Denis Pitre, Jocelyne Lemieux (Paul) and Alain Pitre (Lucia).
In life, we truly are fortunate to have very special people that make our life whole. Aline shared a lifelong bond with her best friend Jeanine Caron (Lionel predeceased). Equally loved were Raymonde and Marcel Gagnon, Georgette and Rejean Fontaine (both predeceased). She embraced Elaine McDonald like a second daughter for over 59 years. She entrusted Dan Labranche with her with home maintenance, errands and driving to church.
Over the past month, Mom enjoyed so many phone calls and pictures of family on Facebook and family visits. One such call came on her birthday, from family friend, Monseigneur Jean Paul (JP) Jolicoeur. This was always special to her as they shared the same birthday and this tradition.
A very special “Thank You” to the Walford Residence in Sudbury where the staff and caregivers were so appreciated by mom. She always said, ‘Everyone is so special and caring here’.
‘Thank you’ to Health Sciences North health care workers in the Emergency Department, and 7th floor and to Rob Pyot, her Chiropodist who maintained her ability to walk, and to Bayshore nurses, Fatima and Nicole who managed mom’s daily care needs.
She leaves behind a legacy of deep love and kindness. Mom’s outlook on life was always one of positivity and hope. Stating she will be missed is an incredible understatement.
There will be a private service this spring followed by a Christian burial at St David Cemetery in Noelville, Ontario. Donations to a charity of your choice may be made in her memory.
If mom was to have suggested how to best be remembered, she would have asked that you spend time with your family and friends just as she did, taking every moment to cherish life with loved ones.
Rest well mom for a life well lived – until we see each other again,
Love Ginette
