Andrew Byrnes Obituary

BYRNES, Andrew Joseph (1967-2023)

Andrew Joseph Byrnes, 55, of Chelmsford, Ontario sadly passed away January 6, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones at Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury, Ontario after a short battle with brain cancer.

Andrew is predeceased by his younger brother Terry and is survived by his parents Katherine and Donald Byrnes of Chelmsford, his sister Carol of Harriston, his brother Tim of Chelmsford, his sister Arlene (husband Mike) of Markstay, his sister Janice (husband Lee) of London and his sister Cathy of Chelmsford.

Andrew was born in Sudbury, one of 7 children. He was raised on the family farm. He loved farm life, was a very hard worker and was the first to lend a helping hand.  He especially loved fishing, hunting, harvesting wood, planting trees and garlic. He enjoyed canoeing, picking blueberries and long walks. He appreciated everything in life, especially good food and made sure the cook (usually Tim) knew it. He had a strong connection to nature, a keen knowledge of all animals, trees & plant life, and often would refer to his many well used nature books.

In his early years he studied fish and wildlife technology at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Lindsay, Ontario. He then worked for the MNR where he did fish sampling on the French River, and in the process learned to appreciate the river, its surroundings and nature even more.

Andrew will be remembered mostly for his kindness, work ethic, and his wicked sense of humour which prevailed even to the end. Even after Andrew received his terminal diagnosis, and as the illness progressed, his sense of humour and compassion for others prevailed.

The family would like to thank the palliative care team at HSN, home and community care team in Sudbury, the Bay Shore nurses who did the home visits and Tim McCue of Dowling IDA whose diligence, care and compassion were very much appreciated.  A very special thanks to Maison McCulloch Hospice, who rely heavily on donations. From the first day that Andrew entered hospice, right up until his final day, the compassion and end of life care was outstanding.

A special thanks to Sharon, Gordon, Jeff, Steve, Doris, Danny for your support.

At Andrew’s request, there will be no visitation or services for the public. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Simple Wishes of Sudbury.

Donations may be made in Andrew’s honour to Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury, or the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
