The family of Annetta “Jean” Hadlow, a resident of Copper Cliff Ontario announces her peaceful passing on Monday August 21st, 2023 at the age of 92 years, after a long full life. She was loved greatly and will be missed terribly. She was predeceased by her parents Margaret and James Chalmers. Also predeceased by her sisters Margarite and Marian, her brother James as well as her children Shelly Ann and Alexander. She is survived by her children Caryl (Michel Porlier) from Morinville, Alberta, Phillip (Lise) from Sudbury, Valerie (Eugene Spadafore) from Lively, David (Sandy) from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and Tracey (Roger) Detillieux from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She will be remembered with love by many nieces and nephews, with a special mention to Pat, Elaine, John and the Maitland family.
Her family was important and travelling the country to keep up with the 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and the one great great granddaughter kept her smiling and gave her bragging rights to a 5-generation picture. She loved to knit, bake and sewed for each and everyone as long as her health allowed. She never forgot to send a card for every birthday, anniversary, graduation, baptism, get well and thinking of you occasion even after macular degeneration took her vision. Mom was a Royal Air Force wife, travelling with 7 little ones to far off places. Tales of snowy mountain rescues and monsoon afternoons were told over tea and a good game of crib. Her return to Canada after the passing of Shelly Ann brought her back to family and the Ottawa Valley that she loved. The move to Sudbury brought her to Revenue Canada, a career that had her travelling, setting up mobile tax return clinics then settling down into the “audit” department. Mom was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion starting in Copper Cliff and last held the position of Provincial President (1996-1998) Ladies Auxiliary Ontario Command. Her piano playing at the “Pig & Whistles” and convention gatherings was something she enjoyed and could play any of the “old” songs requested by ear. Her 15-year hospital volunteer commitment ended when her mobility and vision became more of an issue, the joke being mom was the only person to be “fired” from volunteering. Her faith was important to her and the Copper Cliff United Church met her needs with choir, bake sales, teas and other UCW activities. She had many “angels” amongst the congregation and the family would like to thank Morna, Roy, Marilyn, Joyce, Janice and Janet for providing rides, afternoon tea and chuckles as only they could.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Copper Cliff United Church UCW would be greatly appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. A church service will be held on Monday August 28th, 2023 at 11am at the Copper Cliff United Church. Please wear yellow it was mom’s favorite color. Interment at the family plot Auld Kirk Cemetery Lanark will be set at a later date.
Cremation services provided by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury.
No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away and mom has left many ripples. (Terry Pratchett)
