Brian Nadjiwon Obituary

Brian David Nadjiwon

January 28, 1950 – May 4, 2026

Brian Nadjiwon, a man of deep integrity and immense strength, passed away at Health Sciences North in Sudbury on May 4 th , 2026 at age 76. He grew up in Waters Township, Walden, the son of Leonard and Ann Nadjiwon (nee Collins), both predeceased.

While many knew him in several capacities, as a 31.5 yr Vale employee, a high stakes casino dealer (second career), a poker player, a fisherman, a carpenter and cabinet maker (first love), a building contractor (third career), a jack of many trades, a softball umpire for many years, a ringette referee, ringette travelling team manager, those who knew him best knew that his heart belonged to family. Family and friends were very important to Brian, and he loved to drop in anywhere, anytime for a coffee and a chat. He could be relied on and always showed up whenever someone needed a hand.

Brian was always a strong competitor, playing hockey and chess in younger years, becoming an online gamer in the early ‘80’s, owning one of first Vic 20 computers in the north. His favorite game for the past decade was frequent Yahtzee competitions with his good friend Debbie Weiler……she and her husband Bill may have won our house in a tournament?!!

Brian spent 54 years building and living a life of purpose alongside his wife Cathy (nee Somers) and their three daughters Jody (Bill Burbidge), Jillian (Brent Kidd) and Brianna (Robert Holla). He was a hardworking compassionate father with an ironclad moral compass providing a guiding foundation of love and support. He adored and spoiled his grandchildren Joshua Cayen-Kidd (Tanya Behnke), Jayden Kidd (Jay McGovern), Aria and Amelia Holla and his precious great granddaughter Oaklan J McGovern.

He was an avid dog lover and while he claimed he didn’t want another dog, he was the most dog loving grandpa and great grandpa to many dogs. He also loved his time at Fairbank lake, first at the family summer camp (from 1963) and then more recently at daughter Jody’s home (from 2017).

Brian loved his siblings, nieces, nephews, and even his in-laws deeply, brother Ron-baa (predeceased) and sister-in-law Nancy (nee Steele), their daughters Leanne (Richie Urso), their children Adam and Mathew ; Lisa (Chris Schiller), their children Hannah and Gwen; ; brother Charles and his children Katie (Robin McLaughlin) their children Duncan, Keegan and Kinley; nephew Jeffrey; sister Lynne Donnelly, (Barry predeceased) their children Kent (Annetta) their daughter Hayly Tyson; Gene (Shari) their children Tyson, Rowyn and Jaxx; sister Jan Puddy (Michael) her children Arin (Char) daughter Emma, Ryan (Keri) nephew Tom, Chad (Liz); sister Susan (Dan Ferrans) their children, Janice-Lynne, her children Jordan (Morgan), Josee, and son Justin (Jessica) their children Tiffany and Justin; brother Michael (Lianne) his children Phillip, Ashley (Dragos) their son Roman, and nephew Spencer-baa (predeceased).

He will be deeply missed by his in-laws, mother-in-law Donna Somers (predeceased) sisters-in-law Sheri Somers (predeceased (Jim Meilleux); Kelley Somers and her children Solstice Somers-Roy (Kate) his son Wyld; niece Aura Beth (Dave Penny) their daughter Eleanor; Marney (Somers) Earnest, her children Brandon (Tuyen) and Lindsay (Juan).

At Brian’s request there will be no service. A Celebration of Life is being planned for the summer. Family will provide date and place when details confirmed.
