Catherine O'Connell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine O’Connell on July 16th, 2020 at Health Sciences North Sudbury at the age of 78 years. Catherine was born in 1943 in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia and her heritage was with the First Nations, Mi’ Kmaw Clan. Her native name was Sk’atloon. Catherine moved with her family from Sydney, NS to Sudbury, ON in 1952. Catherine spent many years in Ontario before moving to Kelowna, BC where she would once again rediscover her First Nations heritage. Catherine spent her life dancing to the beat of her own drum. She spent her career dedicated to working and helping people in her chosen field. She had a love of creating, playing music and riding her motorcycle throughout British Columbia and Ontario. She loved to spend time with family and friends. Catherine will be missed by many whose lives she touched. Loving daughter of the late Daniel O’Connell and the late Ellen Jean O’Connell (Kernick). Loving sister of Dan O’Connell and predeceased Mary Lapierre, Julia St. Jean, Shirley Holoran, Maurice O’Connell. Loving mother of Barbara Aney, Kimberly Gladu and the late Richard Gladu. Loving grandmother of Joshua Miller, Sasha Leveque, and Ricky Mesyjasz. Catherine will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
