Charles Love Obituary

Charles “Charlie” A. Love
January 23, 1941 – February 8, 2026

Charles “Charlie” A. Love passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, surrounded by love and compassion. In the weeks leading up to his passing, he was held close by family, friends and caregivers who filled his days with stories, humour and the kind of laughter that comes from a lifetime of memories. Born in Mindemoya, Ontario, on January 23, 1941, Charlie grew up in a large family full of siblings who shaped many of his early experiences.

He will be dearly missed by his long‑term partner, Diane Renaud, who brought tremendous joy and steady support to Charlie’s later years. His children, Peter Love (Tracy) and Jennifer Love‑Campbell (Brian), will also miss their dad deeply and are profoundly grateful for the care, love and companionship Diane provided to him. Over the past year, Diane, Peter and Jennifer spent a great deal of time with Charlie, supporting him through his illness.

Charlie was blessed with many grandchildren and great‑grandchildren, as well as step‑children and step‑grandchildren, all of whom added richness to his life.

Charlie began his working life as a licensed machinist and later shifted to building and maintaining roads across northern Ontario. The work demanded long days and long travel and he approached every mile with grit, pride and dedication. His crew quickly learned that when lunchtime came and Charlie said he had “paperwork” to do, it meant he was slipping away for a well-deserved nap, and nobody dared interrupt him.

Charlie was known across Manitoulin Island for the best corn around, and for many years he proudly operated Love’s Lane Market. People came for the fresh fruit and vegetables but stayed for the stories, the jokes and the colourful language that only Charlie could deliver. His maple syrup was legendary and served as one more reminder of the care he poured into everything he did.

Every day at 3 p.m., Charlie could be found at Mum’s Restaurant for his regular coffee break. It was a ritual as dependable and well-loved as he was. There will surely be an empty seat at Mum’s now, although anyone who knew Charlie will still half expect to see him stroll in at 3 p.m.

A celebration of Charlie’s life will take place this summer, when family and friends can gather to share stories and memories. Date to be announced.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Mindemoya Hospital and the palliative care team for their compassion and support during Charlie’s final weeks. Their kindness meant the world to him and to all who loved him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary Palliative Care unit.

Charlie leaves behind a lifetime of stories, a community full of memories and a family who will forever carry his humour and his strength forward.
