PRIEUR, Denis (1958 – 2025)
It is with great sadness that the family of Denis Prieur announces his passing in Sudbury, Monday June 2, 2025, at the age of 66 years. Denis passed away peacefully surrounded by his adoring family. Son of the late Eugene Prieur and of the late Janet Prieur (née Carrey). Loving husband of Lynne Prieur (née Charette). Dear father of Ryan (Megan) and Kristopher (Isabelle). He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his five grandchildren Addison, Elizabeth, Wyatt, Angeline, and Thomas. Survived by his siblings Brenda Prieur, Carmen Prieur, Donald Prieur (Louise) and Jacqueline Prieur (Brent Thomas - Predeceased). Predeceased by his brother Gilbert Prieur (Colette). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Denis courageously battled cancer for 19 months. From the beginning, he was determined to fight and this continued until his very last day. His approach to this battle was representative of how he lived his life. He was optimistic, hopeful, determined, full of humour, and always mindful of how those around him were doing. Above all else, Denis truly valued happiness.
Denis and Lynne were married for 41 loving years. Over the years, they formed many meaningful memories, had lots of fun, and faced moments of adversity together as a team. Regardless of the circumstance, they moved forward together with love. Lynne was a fierce advocate for Denis during his battle and worked tirelessly to ensure he had the best quality of life during his remaining years. We are all incredibly grateful for this. His sons are incredibly proud and fortunate to call Denis their father. He worked hard to provide for his family and we fondly remember all the great times we had together when camping at Grundy Lake or when driving all over for hockey, baseball, football, golf, or to hang out with friends. What we will remember most is his sense of humour and the jokes he may have repeated once or twice (which we will continue to use). Ultimately, he provided a great model for what a father and husband should be. Denis was an incredibly proud Grandpa and enjoyed watching their activities and cheering them on. Mostly, he loved to tease and joke around with them. This will undoubtedly lead to lasting memories for them and the ever-knowing fact that Grandpa loved them.
Denis’ easy going demeanor helped him form many friendships over an extraordinary 40-year career with Falconbridge (Glencore) as a miner. Denis also cherished his time at camp (Portage Resort). He enjoyed laughing and joking around the fire with many of his friends, cruising on his boat, going fishing, or just sitting peacefully in the gazebo. He loved to be helpful. When someone would call asking for help, he would often be on his way before the conversation ended.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge Dr. Natasha St-Onge, Dr. Geordie Linford, Dr. Ravi Singh and the many nurses and PSW’s working in the Northeast Cancer Centre and 4 North who cared for Denis. Their care, compassion, professionalism, and commitment had a tremendous impact on Denis’ well-being and we will be forever grateful. He was a great man and will truly be missed. In lieu of flowers or donations, we can honor Denis’ memory by sharing all the fun, enjoyment, and humour he brought to this world. He would rather us spend our time remembering the good times, sharing some fun stories and spreading happiness into this world.
