Donald Wayne Wright (1939-2025)
In loving memory of Don Wright, born August 20, 1939, who passed away on September 24 at Sudbury HSN-Health Sciences North. Don is survived by beloved partner, Beverly Sauvé who was ever at his side, his children Mandy (Glenn), Steven, and Jennifer, and beloved grand daughters Elizabeth, Amber, and Maia. Don is also survived by his brother Robert (Joan), and sister Doreen Ransom (Harvey), several nieces and nephews, and dear friends too many to name.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Beatrice (nee Coleman) and Preston John Wright, his sister Marion and her husband Russ Kivinen and their children Geoffrey and Mary Catherine. Don is also predeceased by first wife Virginia (nee Allen), several aunts, uncles and cousins. And friends too many to name.
Don was a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design’s Industrial Arts program (1962), and he made design his profession, working until he was in his 85th year. He spent the first half of his professional life in the Maritimes working for architects, the Wandlyn hotel chain, and for numerous freelance clients. In the second half of his career in Sudbury, Don contributed his talents to Simpson’s Contract Design and many private clients. From the Maritimes to Manitoba to Belize, the fruits of Don’s great creativity will last long beyond him.
Don wore many hats; he lived life to its fullest and out loud. He was a grandfather, father, partner, husband, brother, son, uncle, and dear friend. He was a designer, a painter, a photographer, a teacher, and tv news show host, a politician, a dancer, singer and actor, a reader and intellectual, and a lover of classical music and opera. Don was a world traveller, a recording artist, a fast car driver, a boat captain and sailor, a miner, a gas station attendant, bongo player, gambler and drinker, a butterfly collector, a golfer, a pilot, a skydiver, and a white-water rafter. He was a joker and storyteller, and a lover of British humour and Bugs Bunny alike. He is unforgettable, as anyone who knew him will likely relate. He will be dearly missed and remarkably recalled.
Immeasurable thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of HSN-Health Sciences North, especially those on the 4th and 6th floors.
