SANFTENBERG, Doris Edith (August 12, 1931 – July 2, 2025)
It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Doris Edith Sanftenberg on July 2, 2025, at Health Sciences North, surrounded by her devoted family.
Born on August 12, 1931, Doris was the cherished daughter of Basil and Edith Vance (née Smith), both predeceased, and dear sister of Russell Vance (predeceased). A proud and loving mother, Doris was predeceased by her daughter Cindy Spencer (Max) and leaves behind her daughters Lindy Spencer (Kevin) and Teralee Larabie (Terry), who will forever hold her in their hearts.
She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren James (Lisa), Justin (Jason), Shannon (Anish), Shawn, Tyler, and Ashlee, and her great-grandchildren, Luca and Rylah, who brought her endless joy and pride. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love touched everyone who knew her.
Doris dedicated her life to nurturing and educating others. She began her teaching career at West End School in Walford (1950–1955) and went on to teach for three decades at Massey Public School, where she inspired generations of young minds with her compassion, integrity, and tireless dedication. She also shared her faith and spirit through her work as a Sunday School teacher and active member of the United Church.
A proud and longstanding member of the Retired Teachers of Ontario and the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, Doris lived a life rooted in service, family, and community. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her heart always full.
Doris had a passion for life that was reflected in the things she loved most, gathering with family and friends, sharing home-cooked meals, enjoying time on the water, camping, playing cards, and never missing an episode of The Young and the Restless. She was also a keen observer of the world, with a sharp political mind and a love for meaningful conversation.
Doris's legacy is one of strength, grace, generosity, and love. She was the heart of our family, and her memory will forever live on in the stories we share, the traditions we carry forward, and the lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in Doris's memory would be deeply appreciated.
A celebration of Doris’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 3:00 p.m. at the Walford Community Hall, with John Faulkner officiating. Interment of ashes will follow at the Walford Protestant Cemetery.
Please join us afterward for a light snack and the comfort of shared stories and cherished memories as we come together to celebrate the extraordinary life of our beloved mother, grandmother, and dear friend.
Forever in our hearts.
