Dr Douglas Marr
1952 - 2020
It is with broken hearts that the family announces the passing of their husband and father, Dr. Douglas Marr, on May 31, 2020 at Health Sciences North. Douglas was born in Scotland in 1952 to Alexander Marr and Saxon Marr (nee Hunter) (both predeceased) and moved to Canada in 1983. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sadie, as well his three children, Gail (Bob) Moggy, Iona (Rich) Seaman, and Stewart (Amanda) Marr, each of whom were a blessing in his life. Douglas was a beloved Granddad to his 9 grandchildren: Prudence, Jude, and Maxwell Moggy; Blake and Mia Solomon & Kali Seaman and Rebecca Charrette-Seaman; and Lucas and Sloane Marr. He is also survived by his brother Alistair in Scotland, as well as his brothers- and sisters-in law, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be sorely missed by his friends and colleagues.
Douglas was a strong advocate for mental health through his 37 years of practice as a psychiatrist working with children, seniors, and the First Nations community of M’Chigeeng. He was well known to many individuals through his work with adults with ADHD. Douglas was an avid and passionate cyclist, weightlifter, and trail runner. He greatly enjoyed reading, learning, and sharing his knowledge with others.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Northeast Cancer Centre for their care and compassion, as well as Adele in HSN’s Emergency Department and Megan in HSN’s Radiology Department. Douglas was grateful for the compassionate care of his PSW, Rebecca, and his nurse, Erika, both from Bayshore. Extra special thanks go to Dr. Tracy Hayes, a dedicated family physician and, most importantly, a wonderful friend.
At Douglas’ request, there will be no funeral; however, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation for children’s mental health would be greatly appreciated by the family. Cremation services by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury
Douglas will be remembered by those who loved him most for his countless words of wisdom.
