Evelyne Henzer Obituary

Henzer, Ruth Evelyne (August 9th 1935 – April 14th 2023)

In loving memory of Evelyne Henzer (née Zimmerli) who passed away in Sudbury, Ontario with family by her side, at the age of 87 years. Dear daughter of the late Hedwig (née Meister) and Richard Zimmerli of Switzerland. Beloved wife of Jean-Louis Henzer (predeceased 2015). Loving mother of Johnny (wife Laura), Helena (Victor) and Liliane (husband Barry Mathieu). Cherished grandma of Danielle (Alex), Carinna (Tim), Martin (Danielle), Skylar Henzer, Braeden Henzer, Logen Henzer, Delaney Henzer, Calleigh Henzer and Savanah Henzer. Also proud Great grandma of Zara. She will be lovingly remembered by her younger siblings Marguerite (Alexandre Dogny), Sonia, and Jean-Pierre (Iryna). Her dear cousin Elisabeth who was like a sister, all of Switzerland. She will be sadly missed by her dear niece Karin of New York City, USA, who held a special place in her heart. Evelyne leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins all of Switzerland, New York and from Jean-Louis’ family of Switzerland.

Evelyne was born in Lausanne, Switzerland on August 9th 1935. At the age of 21 she travelled across the ocean with friends as she wanted to travel and see other parts of the world. She worked in Toronto, Canada for a few years as a Nanny/Cook and also in New York City, USA. She learned English from the children that she cared for. She met Jean-Louis through friends who had all immigrated from Switzerland near Toronto, Ontario. They were married in Grand-Valley, Ontario where they began their life together in the countryside. They moved to Sudbury, Ontario shortly after for an opportunity for Jean-Louis to work at Inco. They settled in Garson, Ontario where they raised their three children. During their lives they made many special lifelong friends. Evelyne enjoyed picking berries in the family garden as she loved making homemade jam for her family. She also loved to bake for her family and friends. Her grandchildren would request her delicious homemade blueberry cobbler for a special dessert during family gatherings. She also loved flowers especially freshly picked from the garden and her yard.

Evelyne was very loving, kind, generous and welcoming. She enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbours and always stayed connected with her family and friends in Switzerland and with friends that she met since coming to Canada. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her; however she will be in our hearts forever.

She was also very faithful and a long-time devoted member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, being part of the Sudbury French Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Val Caron, Ontario since 1972. She was known by her friends for her hospitality and her humble disposition. She will be missed dearly by her spiritual brothers and sisters.

“Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to resurrection of life…” John 5:28, 29

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the compassionate Health Care Professionals who cared for her.

There will be a service held at a later date and a Celebration of Life. Cremation services provided by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury, Ontario.

Les arrangements sont confiés à Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.
