Irene “Anita” Rita Peltier (née Wakegijig)
Anita passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends at Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury.
Beloved wife of Tom Peltier baa. Loving mother of Karen (George) of Toronto, Andrea baa, Michael Jon, Ian and Jamie (Joanna) of Wiky, and Erin (husband Blair) of Sudbury. Special mother-in-law to Martina.
Loving grandmother of Robin baa, Sasha, Amanda, Tyler, Joshua, Ethan baa, Braeden, Beau, Jorja, Kara, Shaeya and Kyree. Great Grandchildren Brayden, Jolton, Joshua, Jordell, Damien.
Predeceased by parents John and Agnes (nee Manitowabi) Wakegijig. Sister of James Wakegijig baa (Wife Nora), Ronald Wakegijig baa (Wife Rosemary), Henry James Shawanda (Gloria), Isaac Trudeau baa (Genevieve) and Linda Trudeau. Dear sister-in-law to Eugene Pelletier baa, Robert Pelletier baa, Wilfred Pelletier baa, Rosemary Odjig baa, and Yvonne McRae baa. Will be missed by special and longtime friends, Cecilia Pitawanakwat, Tillie McGregor, “Suzie Q” baa and Celina Aiabens baa, and Doris Trudeau baa. Special mom to Tanya Debassige.
She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Anita was very “witty’ and had a Wry sense of humor. Anita loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She loved watching her favorite teams the Toronto Maple Leaf’s and Toronto Blue Jays. Anita got to fulfill her wish list trips travelling to Holland and visiting her Uncle Clarence’s baa gravesite (he passed away during battle in WW2) and seeing the bright lights of Las Vegas. Anita followed in her mother’s footsteps and became a school teacher working with children. Later in her career she went back to school at Laurentian University and became a Diabetes Educator at the Wikwemikong Health Centre for many years working alongside her brother Ronnie baa.

The family will receive friends and family at St. Ignatius Church, Buzwah, Saturday, April 4th, 2026, after 3:00 p.m. Funeral mass to be held, Monday, April 6th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., in Holy Cross Church, Wikwemikong.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Maison McCulloch hospice in memory of Mom.
Cremation and funeral services are provided by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury, and Crystal Crematorium.
