Jacques Gérard Bonin

It’s with great sadness that the family announces his death, Sunday, May 31st, 2026, in Sudbury, at the age of 88 years. Son of the late Hector Bonin and the late Hilda Bonin (née Lefebvre).  Survived by his loving wife Paulette Bonin (née Hillman).  Loving father of Pierre, Lise and Denis (Anne).  He will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Alixe (Lindsay), Félix (Martine), Yanik (Pascale) and Mila. He leaves behind his brothers and sisters, Georgette Jutras (late Belarmin), Réjane Michaud (late Gilbert), Lili Anne Woychuck (late Walter), Gilles (Yvonne), Madeleine, Raymond (Maggie) and Dr Richard (Lillianne).  Predeceased by his sister Lucille Litalien (late Marcel). His many nieces and nephews will always cherish the beautiful memories.

After completing his studies, Jacques worked five years as a Psychologist at the Sudbury Algoma Sanatorium, where he played an instrumental role in opening the first Northern Ontario community psychiatric hospital treatment center with Dr. William Surphlis. He then worked as a Psychologist for the Sudbury French Catholic School Board for over twenty-eight years, helping thousands of students and their parents.

He was a true Franco-Ontarian at heart and worked diligently in promoting French language services in the Sudbury region. He was a man of deep faith and enjoyed attending Sunday mass previously at Paroisse L’Annonciation and then Paroisse St-Jean-de-Brébeuf.

The Family will receive family and friends at Paroisse St-Jean-de-Brébeuf Church, Friday June 12 th , 2026, beginning at 10 am followed by a funeral mass at 11 am. 

Sympathy wishes can be in the form of donations to St Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre – LaSalle or the Health Sciences North Foundation – ARCC Sudbury or to Mass donations to Paroisse St-Jean-de-Brébeuf.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the HSN cardiac unit, HSN-ARCC department, as well as the staff of the St-Joseph Rehab – LaSalle for their attentive, professional and compassionate care.
