James Hicks (1943 – 2025)
It is with great sadness that the family of James Hicks announces his passing in Sudbury, Tuesday December 30, 2025, at the age of 82 years. Son of the late George Hicks and the late Ruth Hicks (née Cook). Husband of the late Ann Hicks (née Wheatley). Loving father of Cynthia (Filippo Biondi). Dear brother of Barbara Daboll (late John), Hubert (Jean) and Betty Gullet (late Doug). Predeceased by his brother Robert (Mary-Ann). Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Before retirement, James dedicated his professional life to teaching Chemistry at Cambrian College. After retiring from teaching, he spent many years working part time at Home Depot and enjoyed sharing his skills and knowledge.
He was passionate about cooking, gardening, blueberry picking, wine-making, fiddle-head picking, and the outdoors in general. Many a great meal, including his delicious pies, were enjoyed by family and friends alike. His generosity was limitless.
Even throughout his recent health struggles, he was always up for a patio lunch date with a cold beer and some great food.
He spent the last five years as a resident at Southwind retirement residence and made many new friends amongst the residents and staff. He will be missed by many.
He deeply loved animals, especially dogs (and the occasional cat), with whom he seemed to share an extra-special, soulful connection.
Keeping with his wishes, there will be no service or visitation. Donations can be made to Petsave in his honour; https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/91378
