James Thomas Joseph Kulik
March 16th, 1958 – February 24th, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and a few stories we probably shouldn’t repeat that we announce the passing of James Thomas Joseph Kulik, who headed down his final highway on February 24th, 2026 at the age of 67 years.
Born in Sudbury on March 16th, 1958, James “Jimmy” came into this world ready to tinker. If it had an engine, wheels, or even a slight chance of running again, he’s taken it apart “just to see”. A lifelong mechanic, he believed firmly that anything could be fixed, properly, bush-fixed, or, if necessary, expertly jimmy-rigged, “just to get you home”, and somehow… it always worked.
His garage was his kingdom. Rock’ n roll played loud enough to shake the wrenches. He built his reputation on straight talk, and never letting someone stay stranded. If you broke down, he’d show up. If you couldn’t afford it, he’d “figure something out”, and if you tried to pay him back, he’d probably tell you to just help the next guy.
He loved the rumble of his Harley almost as much as he loved the quiet of the bush at sunrise. Whether he was hunting at dawn, fishing with exaggerated success stories, or riding with he wind in his face, he was exactly where he was meant to be. He claimed fishing wasn’t about catching fish but conveniently forgot that when telling the size of the one that “got away”.
He believed in loyalty, respect, and lending a hand, even if it meant sacrificing his own Saturday. He taught others how to change oil, split wood, bait a hook, and never quit when something didn’t start the first time.
Above all, he loved his family fiercely. He is deeply missed by his wife Karen Kulik; his mother Marguerite Hay; his children, Laurie-Ann Kulik (Michael Morrison) and Kevin Kulik (Christina Price); his grandchildren, Kalvin and Tanner Morrison, Kayleigh and James Kulik; his broker Mihkel Harilaid and his nieces and nephews and countless friends.
He was predeceased by his sister Carol-Ann Matylewicz, and father Andrew Kulik.
A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. If you really want to make him proud, fix something yourself this week… even if it takes duct tape.
The shop lights may be turned off, the Harley parked, and the rock’ n roll turned down, but somewhere, we’re certain he’s already adjusting the carburetor and telling something they’re holding the flashlight wrong.
In lieu of flowers he asked for donations to be made to be made to Maison McCulloch Hospice.
Cremation services provided by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury, and Crystal Crematorium.
