Jeremy Verdiel
February 23rd, 1977 – March 28th, 2026
Jeremy Verdiel, a man of profound integrity and immense strength, passed away suddenly on March 28, 2026, at the age of 49. He grew up in Timmins, Ontario but moved to Sudbury in 1996. While many knew him through his dedicated service to the province, those who knew him best knew that his heart belonged to his family. Jeremy spent 31 years building a life of purpose alongside his wife, Jennifer. Together, they were raising two children, William and Clara Mae, who were the center of his world. He was a hardworking, compassionate father with an ironclad moral compass, providing a foundation of love and support that will continue to guide his family forever.
Family was Jeremy’s greatest priority and his favorite place to be. He was a deeply devoted brother, maintaining a powerful bond with all his brothers throughout his life. Whether it was a quiet visit or a rowdy gathering, Jeremy would do anything for his family, he was the steady hand they could always rely on and the first to show up whenever someone was in need.
A lifelong resident of Northern Ontario, Jeremy devoted his professional life to the Ministry of Natural Resources. He was widely respected for his expertise in wildland firefighting and fire investigation, as well as his role in developing and upholding provincial regulations and standards. A natural leader and gifted mentor, Jeremy took great pride in sharing his knowledge and guiding others through the complexities of wildland fire. Whether leading a crew, conducting an investigation, or explaining regulatory details, he brought patience, clarity, and mastery to all he did. At the heart of his work was a simple and unwavering purpose: protecting his community and providing for the people he loved.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jeremy dedicated a significant portion of his life to helping others. Always willing to lend a hand, he offered his time, strength, and guidance freely to anyone in need, never hesitating to step in when support was required. While he was proud of his work, Jeremy’s true legacy is not found in the fires he fought or the regulations he mastered, but in the fierce, unwavering love he held for his family and friends. He leaves behind a family who were his greatest pride and a community made stronger and better by his kindness, generosity, and presence.
Jeremy is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer; his children, William and Clara Mae; his mother, Brenda, and was predeceased by his father, Ian. He leaves behind a legacy of brotherhood and family: his brothers Spencer (Courtney) and their children Olivia and Levi; Michael (Jill) and their children Braeden, Owen, Oscar, and Raina; Brent (Amy) and their children Payton and Jake; and Wade and his son Nolan. He was predeceased by his brother, Justin. He will be deeply missed by his sister-in-law Heather, brother-in-law Darryl, and mother-in-law, Barbara, along with a wide circle of extended family, friends and colleagues in the Ministry and the Sudbury community.
In keeping with Jeremy's spirit, a celebration of his life will be held in the coming months. The family will provide updates as plans are confirmed so that all who loved him can gather to share memories and honor his legacy.
Cremation services are provided by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury, and Crystal Crematorium.
