Joan Ilene Leore (1946 - 2026)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Ilene Leore (née Truman), at the age of 79 years. A wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Predeceased by her parents, Mason and Ilene Truman. Joan lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved.
Joan was the beloved wife of John Henry "Cook" Leore, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Together, they built a family that was her greatest joy. She was the proud mother of Kristi (John Sage) and Kim (Jason Levac), and the adoring grandmother of Jacob (Chelsea), Cole and Maryn.
For many years, Joan worked as a pediatric nurse in Sudbury, where she was known for her gentle care and deep compassion for the little ones she looked after. While she loved caring for children throughout her career, she never loved the hospital as a patient herself. Fittingly, she passed away after a brief stay in the very hospital where she had given so much of her life caring for others.
For over 20 years, retirement offered an opportunity to spend winters in their second home in Lakeland FL, that included fun times participating in bowling, golf, bridge and shuffleboard - with friends made from Sudbury and the US.
Joan lived with enthusiasm and a strong desire to be active whenever possible. She delighted in movement and fun — skiing, dancing, windsurfing on Ramsey Lake, and sports of all kinds — always eager to participate and enjoy life to the fullest. A highlight included attending theatre and outdoor concerts allowing her to appreciate her love of the arts.
She was known to have a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh that made those around her feel at ease. Her humor was a gift, one that created countless memories and will continue to bring smiles to all who knew and loved her.
Joan will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her kindness, and the many lives she touched through her work and her care. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, it was cancer that ultimately took her from us. Joan faced her illness with quiet strength and grace and passed peacefully, surrounded by love.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff on the 8th floor Health Sciences North (HSN) for their care, compassion, and support during Joan’s final days.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Donations can be made in her memory to Health Sciences North and the Alzheimer’s Society.
Cremation services are provided by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury, and Crystal Crematorium.
