In Loving Memory of Joseph Emery Hanson (December 7, 1943 – September 10, 2025)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Emery Hanson on September 10, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly sixty years, Sally; his children, Douglas (Diane) and Cynthia (Maurice Martin); and his grandchildren, Taylor, Cole, Carter, and Brady, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride.
Emery was a man of quiet strength, gentle wisdom, and unwavering loyalty—a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence enriched every life he touched.
Born in New Brunswick, Emery ventured to Ontario as a young man in search of opportunity. His journey led him to Sudbury, where he began a long and fulfilling career with INCO. But it was a chance encounter on a downtown street that changed his life forever—when a kind-hearted young teacher named Sally Beaudry picked him up and brought him to a friend’s rooming house. That serendipitous moment sparked a love story that would span six decades.
Emery and Sally built a beautiful life together. Their bond was one of deep devotion, mutual respect and enduring love—a partnership that inspired everyone who knew them.
Emery was a man of many talents. In his career he demonstrated leadership and ingenuity which provided success and happiness. In retirement, he and Sally spent winters in Texas, where he developed and pursued a passion for wood carving. He loved to carve wildlife, often birds. Emery’s skill and artistry was recognized with numerous awards. It was really the joy of creating and sharing his passions that truly fulfilled him. He was a man with a big heart, he was very intelligent, wonderfully creative, fiercely loyal, and endlessly kind.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff of the Vermillion Unit at Saint Gabriel’s Villa. Their unwavering compassion, care, and love were instrumental in making Emery’s final two year journey one of support, warmth and love. Their exceptional, selfless service was truly a gift that our family is immeasurably grateful for.
