It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Lawrence "Larry" Michael Carpenter. Larry left us on July 2, 2026, at the young and vibrant age of 59.

Born on June 16, 1967, Larry spent nearly six decades mastering the art of the perfect punchline. He never missed an opportunity to roast his family and friends and make a room erupt with laughter. He grew up causing mischief in Sturgeon Falls, where he attended Northern Secondary High School—proud home of the Braves—and discovered an early passion for hitting things with sticks. As a talented drummer back in the day, Larry absolutely loved playing in the band, keeping the beat for his friends and family and setting the rhythm for a wild youth. His love of music truly flourished under the guidance of his mentor, Mrs. Thornton. As Northern’s music teacher, she nurtured his talent and opened doors to incredible opportunities. Music took him on unforgettable journeys, leading him to competitions across the United States, throughout Canada, and all the way across the pond to London, England. Though he hung up his drumsticks in his later years, he never quite lost that inner rockstar energy.

In his younger days, Larry was a true charmer, and a legendary ladies' man who knew exactly how to use his quick wit and drummer status to his advantage. He always new how to dodge any question about when he was finally going to "settle down." As a gold-card-carrying member of the Bachelor Club, Larry lived exactly on his own terms. He absolutely loved his gaming, always kept himself sharp by staying on top of current events, and spent countless hours watching comedy—both old-school classics and new-era humor. He loved fiercely, laughed loudly, and enjoyed chilling with his friends.

Beyond his talents, he leaves behind a legacy of unfiltered wit and a long list of family and friends who will miss his vibrant personality, constant jokes, and humor terribly. He possessed a great nature, a huge heart, and a profound generosity that defined how he lived. If you were fortunate enough to be in his inner circle and he let you in, you knew he would do absolutely anything for you, truly willing to give the shirt off his back to help family and friends in need.

Larry is survived by his son Dean Denomme; his sisters, Laurie Anderson (Brian), Cindy Carpenter, and Joan Carpenter-Raby; and his brother, John Carpenter. He is also survived by his nephews, Craig Anderson, Jake Raby, Shane Raby, and Sean Carpenter; and his adored great-nieces, Riley and Lexy, and great-nephew, Benny.

Larry was predeceased by his loving parents, Myrna and Bill Carpenter; his beloved Grama, Viola Halvorsen; and his cherished niece, Lindsey Anderson. We know they were all waiting to welcome him with open arms, and we are certain Lindsey already had a stellar comeback lined up and waiting for him. He will also be deeply missed by a wide circle of friends who will never quite look at a hangout or a family gathering the same way again.

A celebration of Larry’s life—which will double as a final rock concert and roast in his honor—will be held at summer's end, with details to be announced at a later date. In lieu of traditional mourning clothes when the time comes, the family asks that you prepare to wear your favourite band t-shirt or casual clothes, and bring your favorite, funniest story about Larry to share.
