In loving memory of Leslie (Les) Mayer (1967 - 2025)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie (Les) Mayer in the early hours of October 22, 2025 at Health Sciences North with his loving family by his side.
Les was the beloved husband of Paula Mayer (née Mitchell) for 29 wonderful years. Loving father to Mitchell Mayer (Winter) and Amanda MacDonald (Jakob). Proud and cherished “Papa” to four amazing grandchildren – Grace, Fred, George and Ezra.
Beloved son of Leila McIntosh and Aime (Ruth) Mayer predeceased. Loving brother to Kathy Hughes (Kevin), Gordon Mayer (Tracy Swinwood), Edward Mayer (Lynne Gagne), Leo Mayer (Kathleen), Maria Nelson (Dan), Sheilla Beaumont (Mike), Cynthia Mayer, Stephanie (predeceased) and Mary-Stella (predeceased)
Dear brother-in-law to Darlene Belisle (Jacques), Sheilah Weber (Mike Chapman), and Shawn Mitchell (Karen), and loved nephew to a special aunt, Cathy (Erik) Oja. Les will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends he considered family.
Les was born in Brockville, Ontario, and moved to Sudbury in the early 1990s, where he met the love of his life, Paula. They were married in 1996. A dedicated and skilled Petroleum Technician, Les built a career spanning more than 30 years, most recently with Patrick Sprack Limited.
Les deeply treasured time spent with his family and held a special affection for his children, while his grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart. He loved traveling to visit family in Brockville (at the “funny farm”) and in North Carolina, and every summer he and Paula looked forward to their road trips together. Les cherished summers at his trailer surrounded by Paula, family, and close friends, where countless lasting memories were made. A lifelong ringette dad, he was always in the stands cheering on his “baby girl.” He loved taking his son Mitchell to hockey games and never missed a chance to share a few pointers on technique.
Les was a proud and devoted member of Kin Canada, an organization that held a special place in his heart. Through his years of service, he shared his love of Kin with his family and community. The friendships and connections he made through Kin became lifelong bonds that he cherished deeply. Les was a gifted storyteller, a talented speechwriter, and a lifelong lover of reading.
Les has been cremated, and his ashes will be interred at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at the Wahnapitae, Community Centre, 161 Glenbower Crescent, Wahnapitae, ON. on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a light meal and fellowship.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated physicians and compassionate staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Health Sciences North for their exceptional care and support.
To celebrate Les’ legacy and love for family, contributions may be made to an educational fund supporting his cherished grandchildren. Details can be found online at http://gofund.me/94472aff0
