Dupuis, Loria “Dupe, Duper”
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Loria Lionel Dupuis by his loving family at Health Science North on Sunday, February 8th, 2026 at the age of 83 years. Beloved husband for 57 years to Diane Dupuis (nee Burton). Loving father of Daryl Dupuis (Chantal) and Darcey Dupuis. Cherished grandfather of Nathaniel Dupuis. Dear brother of Donald Dupuis (Gertrude), Leonie Mrochek (late Ron) (partner Lance) and Diane Dupuis. He will be greatly missed by his sisters-in-law Lorraine Lebeau (Leo) and Irene Vincent (late Claude) and by many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents Paul and Beatrice Dupuis (nee McCoy) and by his brother Leo, and his brother Leonard Dupuis (late Lucy).
An extremely devoted and loving son, husband and dad, Loria always placed the needs and concerns of others over his own. Over the decades, he encouraged his wife and his sons to be ambitious, enjoy life, stay positive, do what makes them happy, and most importantly, to put their worries to rest. Even in his last moments of life, this held true.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, he had a particular passion for hockey and was a loyal fan of the Detroit Red Wings. Throughout his life, his mental and physical well-being was strengthened by his active participation in hockey, football, baseball and bowling. Building life-long friends, while carrying with him a lasting appreciation for teamwork, discipline, and perseverance, he encouraged his two sons to do the same. The bond amongst teammates was so strong, it was even the subject of an article in September 2023, featuring Loria, and childhood friends who were teammates of the former Garson Braves baseball team.
As a proud member of the Métis Nation of Ontario, Loria was always a strong supporter of outdoorsmanship. He had a passion for partridge hunting and enjoyed sharing this experience with his wife and his sons, not simply for the hunt itself, but for the time spent together in the great outdoors. Those family outings were unhurried and meaningful, marked by crisp air, familiar trails, and an appreciation for the natural environment which surrounds us.
As a member of the United Steelworkers Canada, Local 6500, Loria was politically active throughout his life. He always understood the need for workers to have a voice in politics, as workers inevitably drive the economy. With his family always at the forefront of his mind, his career of 33 years at Inco served his need and desire to provide stable financial support for his family. While working at Inco, he earned the respect of colleagues through his strong work ethic and commitment to safety. Deeply involved in first aid and mine safety, he took great pride in ensuring the well-being of others and was recognized for his skill and precision, even winning competitions for his accuracy and preparedness. Protecting his coworkers was never just part of the job—it was a responsibility he carried to heart.
Following retirement, he settled into a rhythm he truly enjoyed. Many mornings found him at the local Tim Horton’s in Garson, coffee in hand, engaging in lively discussions about world events, sports, and—inevitably—the ever-changing weather. His bonds of friendship continuing to grow with those he surrounded himself with.
His love, guidance, and steady presence will be deeply missed by those who knew him, but his values, kindness, and devotion will live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Health Science North, Sudbury.
In respecting Loria’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time.
Cremation services are provided by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury, and Crystal Crematorium
