Loyalle McDougall Obituary

Loyalle McDougall (1938 – 2025)

It is with great sorrow that we share the news of Loyalle McDougall’s peaceful passing on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the age of 87 in Gore Bay. Loyalle was a loving husband to Alice McDougall for over 63 years. He leaves behind cherished memories with his children—Scott (Karen), Jamie (Sandra), and Coralee (Marc); his grandchildren—Laura (Dan), Matt, Neil, Andrew (Janelle), Jessica, Curtis, and Neven; as well as great-grandchildren Ella, Olivia, and Logan. Surviving him are also his sisters Joanne (Steve) Donaldson, Sharon (Mike) Boyd, his brother Jim (Nancy) Douglas, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Loyalle was predeceased by his parents, Neil and Stella, and step father Wils Douglas.

Raised in Ice Lake, Loyalle played an important role as the eldest sibling to Joanne, Sharon, and Jim. In 1962, he married Alice Cranston from Spring Bay, and together they began their family journey a year later.

Throughout his career, Loyalle excelled as a skilled equipment operator with McDougall Construction, working first under his father Neil, then his Uncle Lauchie, before eventually running the business himself. He generously supported Gore Bay parades for many years by donating equipment. Loyalle was admired by both colleagues and customers for his friendliness, strong work ethic, and unwavering integrity.

In his younger years, he volunteered as an ambulance driver and maintained long-standing commitments to the Royal Canadian Legion Western Manitoulin #514 and Gore Bay Masonic Lodge #472 for more than half a century.

Despite his demanding work schedule, Loyalle always made time for friends and family. He and Alice enjoyed spending several years at their property on Mindemoya Lake and later at their cottage on Lake Kagawong. Loyalle was passionate about snowmobile trips and treasured moments spent at his bush lot in Ice Lake, especially during hunting season.

Known for his sharp wit, memorable jokes, and spontaneous visits, Loyalle brought warmth to all who knew him.

A celebration of his life will take place at the Gore Bay Legion (Branch 514) on Saturday, March 14th from 1-4pm. Additionally, a small memorial service will be held at Gordon Cemetery on Sunday, July 26th at 3pm.
