In loving memory of Marcel Roland Beland who passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday June 7th, 2026, at the age of 72. Son of the late Donat Beland and of the late Jeanne (Danis). Stepson of Lionel Ethier (also known as Papa Beas). Loving husband of Heather (Stephen) for 51 years, who was the love of his life. Dear father of Evan Beland (Cindy) and Julie Begley (George). Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Braeden (his hockey boy), Andrew (Papa’s welder), Connor (Papa’s mechanic) and Alyssa (Papa’s princess). Marcel is survived by his sister Theresa and by his brother Denis. He was predeceased by his siblings Greg, Armand, Gisele and Francis. He will be greatly missed by his special nephews Joe, Travis (Sparky) and Nick and by his niece Stephanie who was his jokester who always made him laugh. His many nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-law will also cherish their memories of him, as well as many lifelong friends.
Marcel retired after 35 years as the lead hand for airport maintenance and as a firefighter at the Sudbury Airport. He was also a volunteer firefighter for Skead Fire Station #22. He spent 43 years serving his community and mentoring the new recruits. He still holds the record for the fastest response time which was one of his proudest achievements. He used to tell the boys “Drive her like you stole her!”
Marcel was also very passionate about the snow removal on the road leading to Skead. He was on a first name basis with the 311 dispatchers.
He was known as Mr. Fix it. He owned every tool and could fix anything. He also knew where every tool was, who borrowed it and who didn’t bring them back to Beland Tire (open 24/7!)
His best times were spent at Island Lake fishing and camping with the boys. He enjoyed his time on the Pickerel River and on Guitar Lake. He loved spending his winter holidays in the Caribbean.
A celebration of life will be held June 20, 2026 at the Skead Community Centre from 11-2. Luncheon provided.
Cremation service provided by Simple Wishes of the North and Crystal Crematorium.
