Marie Bertha Fleming (née McBride)
It is with heavy hearts that family announces the passing of Marie Fleming (née McBride), lovingly known as Bertha, on May 20, 2025, at the age of 66, after a brave battle with cancer.
Bertha was the treasured mother of Marie-Dawn (Steven), Thomas, Katie (Ryan), Franklin, and Daniel; a cherished spouse; beloved little sister; special aunt and great-aunt. She is predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Marie McBride, with whom she is now reunited.
A lifelong and dedicated nurse, Bertha was known for her unwavering kindness, compassion, and support—qualities she brought not only to her profession, but to every aspect of her life. She touched many lives with her warmth and generosity, and she leaves behind some of the most wonderful of lifelong friends, whose companionship she valued dearly.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Health Sciences North for their patience and compassion in her final days.
In keeping with her wishes, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bertha’s memory may be made to the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association or the Northeast Cancer Centre.
