In memory of Nancy Ballantyne (nee Green) who died peacefully and with dignity on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the age of 85.
Having undertaken multiple roles throughout her life, Nancy is survived by her sons David (Emily Lemieux) and Michael, her granddaughters Hannah (Eric Despatie) and Erin, and her siblings Gordon Green and Sandra Pigeon (Donald). She will be forever cherished by Barbara Ballantyne, by her nieces and nephews, and by friends both near and far. Through all those who remember her, Nancy’s resilient, compassionate, and honest nature will be carried forward.
Nancy is predeceased by her sister Suzanne “Susan” Pigeon (Harry, also predeceased), her brother Douglas Green (Marlene), as well as her parents Harold and Ila Green.
Born and raised in Eganville, Ontario, Nancy took pride in being from the Ottawa Valley. After completing teachers’ college, Nancy moved to Sudbury, where she built both a home and a meaningful career. Outside of the classroom, she was an avid gardener, a traveller, and an exceptional baker. Nancy also loved to cook and especially enjoyed hosting holiday meals and Sunday dinners. A true matriarch, Nancy was the rock in our family, a guiding presence amongst the group she fondly referred to as “The Bridge Girls”, and a safe space for all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the gardens she grew and the bellies she filled.
In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. She would want to be remembered with laughter and one her favourite drinks - a rye and coke, a margarita, or a cold glass of lemonade. Please feel free to toast to her in your own time.
In Nancy’s honour, donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association either by cheque or online.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simple Wishes of the North Inc.
Grams, though we part for now, we’ll see you again in the stories we share and the love that remains.
