Nicole Sabourin

​SABOURIN, Nicole (1960 - 2025)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden, but peaceful, passing of our loving sister Nicole on May 10 th, 2025 at St-Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton. She was the loving daughter of Albert and Monica Sabourin (both predeceased), and the cherished sister of Claudette Trottier (Jacques), Linda Carriere (Robert), Colette Layman (Kerry – predeceased), Michel Sabourin (predeceased), and Marc Sabourin (Natalie). Nicole was also a very special aunt to Mireille, Chantale, Joel, Matthew, Celine, Derek, Brandon, Stéphanie, and Gabrielle.

In a world rife with darkness, there are people whose light shines bright; they are the beacons of hope, courage, compassion, and unconditional love shared freely with those around them. Nicole’s legacy is one built on these pillars, the lives she touched are too numerous to count, the acts of kindness, often done in silence, too many to list. Nic was a woman of deep faith who lived what she believed. She was certain that her purpose, and indeed all of ours, was to help whomever she could when the opportunity presented itself.

As a teacher, over decades of work across several school boards, she shaped young minds across generations. As an advocate for Teachers at the Ontario Elementary Catholic Teachers Association, she toiled endlessly to ensure that her members received the care, benefits, and support that they needed, regardless of the situation or circumstance. Hers was a life of service to others, and she carried out this mission selflessly, never seeking praise, but rather taking solace in the fact that she was able to make a difference where it mattered. In fact, her final earthly gesture of goodwill, as a result of her death, was to give someone the gift of sight. While she was taken away too soon, she has earned her rest after many years of battling various illnesses. All the while, she always managed to be the glue that bound our family together, opening her home to celebrate birthdays, milestones, special occasions, or just coming together for no reason other than spending time with loved ones.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Cook, Nurse Ashley, and the entire Team at the St-Joseph Hospital ICU for ensuring that Nicole passed with dignity, respect, and compassion. In accordance with Nicole’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. A family memorial will take place at a later date. In memory of Nicole, we would ask that you do an act of compassion for someone in need and/or donate to a charity of your choosing.

C’est avec profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès soudain mais paisible de notre chère sœur Nicole le 10 mai 2025 à l’hôpital St-Joseph de Hamilton. Nicole était la fille précieuse de feu Albert et de feue Monica Sabourin et la sœur bien aimée de Claudette Trottier (Jacques), Linda Carrière (Robert), Colette Layman (feu Kerry), de feu Michel Sabourin et Marc Sabourin (Natalie). Elle était également la tante spéciale de Mireille, Chantale, Joël, Matthew, Celine, Derek, Brandon, Stéphanie et Gabrielle.

Notre monde semble trop souvent couvé de noirceur. Cependant, parmi nous, il y a des gens qui illuminent le parcourt par l’intensité de leur lumière en provenance de leur courage, leur compassion et l’amour inconditionnel qu’ils partagent librement avec ceux autour d’eux. L’héritage de Nicole fut établie sur ces piliers par ses gestes innombrables envers ceux en ayant besoin de soutien, de bienveillance, plus souvent que non en silence. Nic était une personne de grande foi qui vivait sa vie d’après ses croyances. Elle détenait une conviction inébranlable à sa raison d’être qui était d’aider ceux qui avaient besoin d’aide lorsque le besoin se présentait.

Comme enseignante auprès de plusieurs conseils scolaire pendant sa carrière, elle a eu l’occasion de former et d’avoir une influence positive sur des générations d’étudiants. Comme Représentante au sein du Ontario Elementary Catholic Teachers Association, elle s’est dédiée au soutien des membres, s’assurant qu’ils/elles reçoivent le soutien nécessaire peu importe les circonstances ou le besoin. Sa vie fut une mission de service aux autres et elle l’a réussie sans aucun doute et sans relâche, ne recherchant jamais de louanges. Sa seule motivation fut de savoir qu’elle avait pu faire une différence pour quelqu’un dans le besoin. En effet, son dernier geste de charité fut, par sa mort, d’offrir le don de la vue à quelqu’un. Quoi que Nic nous a quitté trop tôt, nous somme rassuré qu’elle a finalement retrouvé le soulagement comme suite à de nombreuses années de troubles de santé et elle peut ainsi reposer en paix. Malgré tout, Nicole était l’élément qui unissait la famille. Sa porte était toujours ouvertes pour les rencontres de famille, les célébrations d’anniversaires et autre, ou simplement pour se réunir afin de passer du temps ensemble.

Nous désirons exprimer notre appréciation sincère à Dr. Cook, Ashley (infirmière) et toute l’équipe du département des Soins Intensifs de l’Hôpital St-Joseph de Hamilton pour avoir assuré que Nicole nous quitte avec dignité, respect et compassion. Comme Nicole nous l’avait demandé, il n’y aura pas de visitation ou de service. Un mémorial en famille aura lieu à une date ultérieure. Nous demandons que vos veux de sympathie se traduisent en gestes de compassion et/ou en dons à une charité de votre ch​oix.
