Rene de Wit passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife Marlene (Wowk) with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. Rene was the proud father of Brent (Laura) and Opa to new granddaughter Maisie. He is survived by siblings John (Pat), Jack (Louise), Jackie (Glenn Toikka) and Phil (Bernadette), his mother-in-law Kay Wowk, and many nieces and nephews. Rene was predeceased by his parents, Johanna and John, and siblings Peter (Betty) and Cornel (Joyce). Rene was born in the aftermath of WWII in Holland, and immigrated with his family to Quebec in 1951, eventually making Valley East his permanent home. He shared an endless passion for camp, snowmachines and all things motorized, and spent many years as an avid competitive stock car racer. For many years, Rene owned and operated an auto repair shop, where siblings, nieces, nephews and friends could find him, always willing to lend a helping hand. Following a terminal illness diagnosis, Rene spent his final years grateful for the love and kindness of his wife, son and new granddaughter, and in the company of cherished friends and siblings. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
