Roderick (Rick) Douglas Spencer (1950 – 2025)
It is with heartbreak that we announce the peaceful passing of Roderick Spencer in Sudbury, Saturday November 15, 2025, at the age of 74 years. Rick was a Registered Dental Technologist (R.D.T) and owned several labs throughout Ontario over the years. Born in Bowmanville, Ontario to parents Donald and Lois Spencer (both predeceased). Husband to his adored wife Norma (predeceased) of Maniwaki, Quebec. Brother of Kim (Dagmar), Karen Reitsma (late George), Roberta (George), Mary and Wuzzy. Dear Uncle, to many nieces and nephews. Rick was the proud member of the “Power Squadron” of Ontario and was an accomplished boater who enjoyed boating on the waters of the Bay of Quinte. When relaxing at home he loved the challenge of a good game of chess. He loved the peacefulness of a day out fishing and frying up his catch of the day with his buddy “Jimmy” and often comparing who caught the most or the biggest of the day. (Jimmy usually won). Rick’s real passion was cooking up gourmet meals for family and friends with his mouth-watering recipes. He travelled the world to places such as Switzerland, Spain, Morocco and Mexico to name a few. Rick enjoyed the culture and cuisine, often bringing back many secret spices or recipes to try out in his kitchen, with family and friends lingering at the kitchen doorway to be the first taste tester.
Rick’s kindness and compassion for others will always be in the hearts of those who truly knew him. He was known to bring full bouquets of flowers to anyone who he thought needed them to brighten up their day or just to see his act of kindness put a smile on their face, truly remarkable.
I would like to extend a special thank you to Carmen and his wife Chona for their friendship and support of Rick over the years. A very special thank you to Sidney for being more like a brother to him than a friend and to Bunny who never stopped being his best friend forever. He will be so very missed.
As per Rick's wishes there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place.
Cremation services provided by Simple Wishes of the North Sudbury and Crystal Crematorium.
