Sherman “Chucker” Sloan
June 2, 1931 - April 10, 2026
Sherman passed away peacefully at HSN on April 10, 2026, at the age of 94.
Born on June 2, 1931, Sherman lived a long and meaningful life grounded in love, hard work, and a deep devotion to family. The second eldest son of Frederick and Mildred (née Hearty) Sloan, both predeceased, and brother to his beloved siblings, Denny, Marlene, Elaine, Linda and Wayne, all predeceased
He is survived by Frances, his beloved wife of 68 years, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sherman and Frances built a life rich in memories, laughter, and unwavering partnership. He will be deeply missed by his children and their spouses: Sandra & Donald; Randy; Michael & Lisa and Denis & Andrea. Sherman was “Papa” to his grandchildren and their partners, André & Mayra; Renée & Kyle; and Hannah, as well as his great-grandchildren, Beckett, Evelyne, and Rylen, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He will live on in their cherished memories.
Sherman dedicated 33 years of his life to a career as a miner for Inco, beginning underground as a driller before retiring as a foreman at Garson mine. His free time was dedicated to his passion for gardening or donating his time and seemingly limitless handyman skills to family, friends and neighbors.
A man of great intelligence and thoughtful perspective, Sherman appreciated meaningful conversations on any subject. He brought warmth, insight, and a steady presence to those around him, and he valued the connections he built throughout his life.
Rest in peace, Dad. We will see you again
The family would like to thank the staff at HSN for their amazing dedication and care provided to Dad, with a special acknowledgment to Dr. Falk and nurse Lisa on the 6th floor palliative care as well as all the wonderful people at St. Joseph's Continuing Care, Lasalle for their dedication and encouragement.
Internment to take place at the Lasalle Cemetery on Saturday, June 6th at 1 pm. Sherman's life will be celebrated afterwards from 2 to 5 pm at the, Vale Living with Lakes Centre,
840 Ramsey Lake Rd., Sudbury.
Cremation services are provided by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury, and Crystal Crematorium.
