It Is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Billy Burke, at the age of 95, who died peacefully on June 24 th, 2026, at Health Sciences North.
Billy was born on October the 14th, 1930 to Louise and Stephen Burke (predeceased), brother to George, Irene (Joe), Lorraine (Tony), Frank (Bette) and Bob (all predeceased). He is survived by his wife Betty, his daughters Stephanie DeSousa and Alison McDougall (Trevor). He was a loving grandfather to Nikkolai DeSousa and Haley and Hunter McDougall and to Champion the best grand dog. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Billy was one of a kind, a force to be reckoned with, if you couldn’t see him, you could hear him coming a mile away. His loud voice, infectious personality, and humour left a lasting impression on those he met. His love for custom cars, classical music, and collective artifacts was dear to his heart.
He loved his grandchildren immensely. He took a genuine interest in them, and he was always awaiting their visits with crepes, treats, the occasional Fresca, and a trip to Tim Horton’s. They said he was the best Papa ever!
Billy had a familiar presence in the Sudbury jewellery community for decades. Known for his craftmanship and genuine care for his customers, Billy has helped generations of families celebrate life’s most meaningful milestones- from engagements to anniversaries, to treasured family heirlooms.
A special thank you to the staff at the Extendicare York and Health Sciences North for their exceptional care. To honour Billy’s request, there will be no funeral service.
