Suzanne Martel

C'est avec regret que sa famille annonce son décès le mardi 6 mai 2025, à l'âge de 69 ans.  

Fille de feu Jean-Denis Martel et feue Louise Martel (née Carré), elle laisse dans le deuil ses sœurs Monique Martel, Jo-Anne St-Jacques (feu Jean-Guy) et Lise Crawford (Steve). Tante bien aimée d'Alexandre (Mélina), Mélissa et Thomas (Amanda). Malgré ne pas avoir d'enfants, elle fût la Meemaw extraordinaire à Madison et Jacob Martel qu'elle aimait « plus gros que l'Univers » et une grand-tante à Brennan, Adalee, Scottie et Rylee. Elle laisse également son petit trésor canin, Finnegan. 

Suite à ses études, Suzanne a comblé un poste d'enseignement dans le petit village de Mattawa où elle a œuvré pendant 35 années. Grande sportive, elle fût l'entraîneuse d'innombrables élèves au sein d'une variété de disciplines et se souciait toujours du succès académique et sportif de ses jeunes. Une fois retraitée, elle n'a su ralentir, remplaçant la salle de classe et le gymnase avec ses jardins, l'aréna de curling et le terrain de golf. Elle fût également bénévole au Centre de cancérologie d'Horizon Santé-Nord pendant plusieurs années. 

La famille tient à remercier le personnel soignant, de soutien et administratif qui ont participé à ses soins et à son mieux-être au cours de son hospitalisation pendant la dernière année. 

Parents et amis seront reçus pour une messe funéraire qui sera célébrée le samedi 31 mai 2025 à 11h00 à la paroisse Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes à Alban, suivit d'une réception dans le sous-sol de l'église.

It is with sadness that the family of Suzanne announces her passing on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, at the age of 69. Daughter of the late Jean-Denis Martel and late Louise Martel (née Carré), she will be sadly missed by her sisters Monique Martel, Jo-Anne St-Jacques (Jean-Guy - predeceased), and Lise Crawford (Steve). Beloved aunt to Alexandre (Mélina), Mélissa, and Thomas (Amanda). Despite not having any children of her own, she was an extraordinary Meemaw to Madison and Jacob Martel, whom she loved so dearly, and great-aunt to Brennan, Adalee, Scottie, and Rylee. She also leaves behind her beloved canine, Finnegan.

Following her studies, Suzanne began her teaching career in the Town of Mattawa, where she remained for 35 years. True to her athletic self, she coached countless students in a variety of sports and always had their academic and athletic success at heart. Retirement did not slow her down as she replaced her classroom and gym with her gardens, the curling rink, and the golf course. She also volunteered at Health Sciences North's Cancer Centre for several years.

The family wishes to thank her medical, support, and administrative team who participated in her care and wellbeing over the course of her year-long hospitalisation.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral mass on Saturday, May 31st, 2025, at the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes church in Alban. An on-site reception will follow.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Simple Wishes of the North in Sudbury and Crystal Crematorium.
