Warren R. Melville January 13, 1935, to May 11, 2025
Warren Melville passed away peacefully with loving family at his side on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Health Sciences North after a brief illness. He was 90 years old. Beloved son of Helen and Larry Melville, both predeceased. Cherished “little brother” of Elaine Finch. Loving father to Sue, Wendy (Phil Montgomery), Sandi (John Varga), and Doug Melville (Erin Poetschke). Father to Michael Ness. Grandfather to Liz Reisler, Kyle McKibbon (Jessica), JJ Ross, and Kelsey McKibbon (Spencer Owen). Proud and delighted great-grandfather to Eloise McKibbon. Doting number one fan of his canine companion, Max.
Warren had a rich and varied life. After growing up in Toronto, he joined Canadian Tire in the late 1950s where he was a sporting goods buyer for many years. He travelled the world on business and often reminisced about those experiences in his later years. He was an avid sports fan, long devoted to the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. Dad was very active throughout his life, playing football in high school, squash, slow pitch baseball, and serving for over a decade as a minor hockey league coach. In the past few years, he renewed his interest in playing cribbage, offering to teach it to anyone who would give him the time.
Warren shared a home with his daughter Sue for the last 13 years of his life. Together, they embarked on adventures such as building a galvanized steel carport, taking a woodworking class together, and trips to Nova Scotia and Atlanta, Georgia. In his last five years, Warren endured a journey with dementia, which was made easier by the wonderful care and compassion shown to him by the staff of the day program at the Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts. Warren deeply appreciated the time he spent with his Alzheimer Recreation Therapist, Rosie. Special thanks also to the Parkside Centre Sports Talk gang. Dad loved those conversations.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Health Sciences North Emergency Department, 5 South, and 6 South, the Amberwood HSN site, and the Extendicare York, Sudbury Convalescent Care Program. We have a renewed and growing appreciation for the healthcare workers in our community.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts in Warren’s memory would be appreciated by the family.
